Nook - Online Newsstand NEW!
La Crosse Public Library now has Nook tablets that circulate within the libraries with pre-loaded electronic subscriptions. Two are available at the Main Library and one at the North Community Library and one at the South Community Library.
These easy-to-use digital newsstands are loaded with Newsweek, USA Today, Food Network, National Geographic, People and Popular Science. The Nooks are available for check out. You just need a photo ID and library card for in-house use only.
Reading is as simple as touching the side of the screen to turn the page. Magazines can be viewed in two modes: Magazine View shows a single article on one page and the reader scrolls down by swiping the screen up. The next article is reached by touching the side of the screen. Article View is more analogous to an actual magazine reading experience. A single page shows on the screen at once and the reader pages through the magazine by touching the side of the screen. To jump to another section of the magazine, touch near the bottom of the screen. Touch the icon that looks like a bulleted list to bring up the table of contents, or scroll quickly through the thumbnail images above the task bar.
The newspaper, USA Today, opens to the "front page" with article titles and sometimes short descriptions. Touching an article brings up the complete text. Return to the front page by touching the arrow in the top left corner of the screen. The menu on the left jumps to the different sections of the paper. Touch near the bottom of the screen to bring up the table of contents.
Try it today! You’ll have magazines and newspapers at your fingerprints, free @ your library! Please ask for the online newsstand at the North and South Community Libraries’ circulation desks.
This summer, the North Community Library is Digging into Reading and into La Crosse. Check out our fantastic window display.
