"Bee" sure to make reading and the library part of your
summer schedule of fun! We will provide a safari of "buggy" programs
and activities to keep you entertained. Stop in at any of our three
library locations to pick up your "Catch the Reading Bug" game
board. Keep track of the time you spend reading and earn food
coupons and grand prize entry forms along the way.
Kick Off Event- Join "Critterrrrman" for his
puppets, banjo, music and humor on Saturday, June 7 at 2 p.m. at the
Kid’s Coulee Theatre at Myrick Park. He will bring his show, "Get
Buggy With It", complete with insect friends and great songs about
the "Reading Bug."

July 23rd will be 6:00 pm.
- Tuesday programs will be held at the
North Community Library.
- Wednesday programs will be held at the Main
Library.
- Thursday programs
will be held at the South Community Library.

June 10 and 12: Ladybug, Ladybug – Polka dot bugs in flight! Come
hang out with the most fashionable bugs in the garden: the ladybugs! Join
Miss Abigail for fun ladybug crafts, activities and stories.
June 11: Bug Carnival – All of the Youth Services Staff have planned
wacky and fun activities for your "buggy" pleasure. Eat "worms
in dirt" and drink "bug juice"- and that’s just
the start!
June 17 and 19: Bilingual Bugs – "Buggie Down" with
Miss Margarita in a serenade of songs, sayings, sights, sounds and
stats on, you guessed it, BUGS!
June 18: "A Bug’s Life" Movie – Join the fun
with Flik and his gang of misfit insects as they try to save his colony
from a greedy gang of grasshoppers.
June 24 and 26: Miss Lucy’s Puppet Parade – From butterflies
to grasshoppers, Miss Lucy’s puppets will be singing songs
about their favorite bugs. Come listen to the chef tell how he tried
to cook up a batch of chocolate ants! Mmmmmm!
June 25: River Bugs – Representatives of the Wisconsin Department
of Natural Resources will bring water from the Mississippi, and let
us view the insect life that lives within.
July 1 and 3: Buzzing Bees – Join Miss Sherri as we share stories,
play games, and make our very own buzzing bees. It will be a "honey" of
a good time!
July 2: Beekeeping with Markie – Markie Pendleton, the bee lady,
will bring a real hive, live bees, and the most information you’d
ever want to know about our friends, the honeybees.
July 8 and 10: Spidermania – The misunderstood spider is the
star of this program, featuring stories, songs and a creepy-crawly
craft.
July 9: Fox and Branch – This great musical duo will entertain
us with guitars, banjos, fiddles and washboards. Their lively
mix of blues, fiddle and jug band tunes is sure to include some tunes
about bugs!
July 15 and 17: Butterflies in Flight – Come and explore
the exciting world of caterpillars and butterflies through stories,
crafts and games as we learn about metamorphosis this summer!
July 16: Bob Kann – Don’t miss this wild storyteller/juggler/magician
as he performs his summer antics! Bob has a PhD in Curriculum and
Instruction and was a professor at UW-Parkside, until he realized he’d
rather make children laugh. He’s still at it 23 years later!
July 22: Ants in Your Pants – Don’t forget
our picnic friends, the ants! We’ll read about "100
Hungry Ants", play
ant games, eat "ants on a log," and read a story about the
world from an ant’s point of view.
July 23: Bruce the Bug Guy – Bruce Giebink will bring a wide assortment
of living and preserved insects for all ages to enjoy. Join us
to see a display of live insects, spiders, scorpions and millipedes. PLEASE
NOTE: SPECIAL TIME: 6:00 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium
July 24: Slugs and Bugs – Join Stephanie Hanna from the Hixon
Forest Nature Center as she shares information about our insect friends,
and brings bug boxes for children who attend.
July 25: FINALE! Hans Mayer, our favorite children’s
musician, will help us celebrate a great summer of insects and reading
at 2 p.m. at the Ho Chunk Nation Three Rivers House, just across the
street from the Library. Certainly, Hans’ brother will be eating
bugs!
