The La Crosse Public Library is currently seeking qualified, outgoing candidates for a brand new full-time Library Associate position in our Youth Services Department. Position requires up to 75% of time out and about in the La Crosse community at local child care centers, organizations serving youth, festivals, farmers markets and more, with the remainder of the time spent assisting in departmental tasks, desk service or programming. Applicants should possess fantastic customer service skills, including adaptability , listening, a great sense of humor and kindness. A keen sense of time management, organization and a willingness to seek out new partnerships and creative service options is key.  Candidates should enjoy working with children, teens, and caregivers equally.

 

This is a 40-hour per week position, including evening hours and weekends. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Due to the nature of this position, the person hired will work many evenings and weekends and must have the ability to adjust their schedule based on community need.  

 

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and an uncanny ability to work with the public are required. Previous library or youth focused experience is preferred.  A knack for empathy, enthusiasm, and collaboration are highly valued. Associate’s degree or equivalent required. Valid driver’s license required.

Salary starts at Grade 12, Step 1, or $19.40/hour. Internal candidates may apply for transfer. Benefits include health insurance, state retirement, sick, vacation and holiday hours.
