Who We Are - The Children’s Department serves children from birth through elementary school age – and the adults who care for them. We have collections of fictional and informational materials perfect for reading aloud to your little ones, kids just learning to read, and fluent readers. We offer fantastic programs from storytimes to science and technology to celebrations of favorite characters. We also offer plenty of do-it-yourself reading goals that you can meet at home— make sure to visit us along the way! From reading readiness before school starts to keeping your brain strong over the summer, there's something for every child at the La Crosse Public Library.  Add a staff who love to work with kids and adults to open the magical world of reading and you’ve found the perfect place for kids in town!

In addition to our online calendar, we have regularly updated flyers that list what's happening in the coming weeks to help you plan your visits. Please click on the links below to see a complete schedule of upcoming programs!

PinterestYouth Services has started a pinterest page! Take a look to discover reading suggestions, crafty ideas, the apps we use in the library, and more great stuff.

Battle of the Books 2015-2016 - if it's summer, then WEMTA's Battle lists are up and ready for eager readers. Here is a printable list of the elementary division books that are/will be available at Main North and South (with shelf locations!). And here is the printable and downloadable middle school list. As always, if our available copies are checked out, you can reserve copies from our system member libraries in surrounding counties. Click here for lists for middle and senior divisions.

Bonus Fun Stuff - Want to read a children's book online? How about watching a short National Geographic video about flamingos or wasps? Maybe puzzles are your game. All this and more is available on the interactive site, Tumblebooks. (In-library and home use of Tumblebooks is paid for and available to City of La Crosse residents only). You'll find stuff for preschoolers, early readers, and kids reading chapter books. Join the fun and let us know what you think!
