Part-Time Librarian I

The La Crosse Public Library is currently seeking qualified, service-oriented candidates for the position of part-time Librarian I in our Reference Department at the Main Street location. Position requires 12-16 hours/week at the service desk, with the remainder of the hours spent in support of departmental initiatives, such as our signature National History Day program, and in developing and implementing technology-based classes for the public. The hallmark of this position is fluency with consumer technology, such as eBooks, tablets, productivity software, and social networking. In addition to hard geek skills, applicants should also possess outstanding customer service skills, including situation evaluation, listening, time management, and tolerance. At our desk, technology IS reference work and a key component of supporting our community.

This is a 26-hour per week position, including regularly scheduled evening hours plus a weekend rotation. Flexibility in scheduling is key. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a passion for public service are required. As an organization, we value and practice empathy, diplomacy, and collaboration. The successful applicant will also bring at least two of the three following items: a Master’s Degree in Library Science, relevant experience in technology instruction/training, and/or previous reference experience.
 
Salary starts at Grade 10, or $21.55/hour. Benefits include pro-rated sick, vacation and holiday hours and support for professional development. This position requires, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree and residency in the City of La Crosse within three months of hire. Email submissions only. Library Lead Aide - Circulation - Main Branch

La Crosse Public Library is currently seeking qualified, service-orientated candidates for the position of Library Lead Aide in our Circulation Department at the Main Street location. This position is responsible for general aide duties including shelving, checking in library materials, and collection maintenance. In addition, this individual will lead department aides by training, troubleshooting, and modeling good workplace behavior. This position will provide back-up to the Circulation service desk.

This is a 40-hour per week position, including evening and weekend hours. Flexibility is required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a passion for public service are required. Autonomy, discretion, and independent judgment are necessary. The successful candidate should have at least 2 years of training and service experience.

Salary starts at Grade 1, or $11.32/hour. Benefits include sick, vacation and holiday hours, health, and retirement. The position requires residency in the City of La Crosse within three months of hire. Email submissions only.
