New Catalog Information
New Web Site and Catalog Information
A new website for La Crosse Public Library is fast approaching this spring! It promises to be much more user friendly with less clutter and cool pix.
Another big change is that the Winding Rivers Library System has contracted for a new system wide library catalog to be launched this spring! If you're a person who has enabled the checkout history on your account, you will want to print this history as it will not migrate over to the new system. To print your check out history, see below.
All three La Crosse Public Library Buildings will be CLOSED MONDAY, MARCH 17, 2014, for this upgrade in service.
Printing your Checkout History
The check out history of your account will not migrate to the new system. If you enabled this feature, learn how to print out your checkout history and saved lists with this guide.

Other News You Need to Know!
Interlibrary loan (ILL) -- Interlibrary loan is defined as a borrowing an item from another library OUTSIDE of the Winding Rivers Library System - we do this through Wiscat.
As of February 14, Interlibrary Library has suspended borrowing and lending of materials until March 25. All materials that are currently checked out are due back by March 7 and we will not be able to accept renewals at this time. This is being done in preparation for the new library catalog system that we will be getting this March. We are sorry for the inconvenience this might cause you. Please submit a new request after March 25 if you are still interested in the item. If that's not enough change for you in one month, Wiscat will also debut a new look at the end of March!
When does all of this happen?
We are very excited to report that we will go live with our new catalog this spring! We are shooting for a March 18 launch date.
What kinds of improvements will I see with the new software?
We are excited about the ease and usability of this new catalog. Some of the nifty
- a super-friendly search screen
- clear, organized tools to help users find relevant resources
- online tools allow for easier user account management
- improved information regarding e-book availability
one-search interface for both the local catalog and many of the library’s online
Why are you changing the catalog?
Our current software did not meet our needs and the needs of many of our users.
Another change was required to stay efficient and accessible to our users.
Will my checkout history, saved searches, or saved lists move to the new catalog?
Unfortunately, no. We advise users to print or save these curated lists and reading
histories by March 15. After that, they will no longer be accessible. A special instruction sheet is also available at the service desks.
In the new software, users will be able to opt in to a saved checkout history and create any number of reading lists.
Will I be impacted by the transition?
Yes. We hope to minimize the impact to our users as much as possible but some of the things to watch for include:
- Sweet due dates. Enjoy extended due dates on materials during our transition to the new system.
- Limited new materials. Starting now, a limited collection of popular items will be added to our current catalog. Watch for those newer titles in the brand new catalog.
- No holds—temporarily. On March 13-17, library users and staff will not be able to place any holds on library materials throughout WRLSWEB. Hold management will resume as soon as we’re up on the new catalog.
- Library closed. While we make the move to the new software, all La Crosse Public Library sites will be closed to the public on Monday, March 17.
I’m still scared. Will you hold my hand?
Though we won’t actually hold hands, we understand that this may be an intimidating time for some of our users. We want to assure you that this new catalog is very friendly. Not only that, but so are we! Staff will be floating around the library during the first month of our launch to show you how the new catalog works. Short web videos will also be available on our website for those of you who like a more self-guided learning experience. And, if the classroom setting is more your speed, watch for formal classes offered to the public after our launch.
Thank you for your patience and continued patronage during this exciting transition! We look forward to helping you find awesome
resources with our spiffy new catalog soon.
We are jazzed about the new catalog coming in March and hope you are too!
We wanted to give you the heads up about some of the policy changes that will coincide with our new system.
Starting April 1, without the corresponding card, we will not be able to checkout requested material to another individual.
That means if you intend to pick up a hold request at the La Crosse Public Libraries for others in your household, you must present the library card used to place the request.
This will help your libraries provide much faster and efficient service.
Library accounts will be updated annually.
Once a year, your library card will expire. Don’t worry! Simply give us a call or stop by one of your local La Crosse Public Libraries with your library card. It’s all rather painless and only takes a few seconds.
This process will help us ensure we are communicating most effectively with our patrons about their library account.
With these service efficiencies and up-to-date patron accounts we hope to provide even better service to our patrons in 2014!
