Books make great gifts! Give the gift of reading to the children in your life. Our Youth Service Librarians have compiled their annual Book Gift Guide (PDF) featuring great titles for children of all ages. From Board Books to Young Adult Novels, we'll help you find the perfect book for anyone on your gift list.

Want to find an obituary for a well-known person? Need an article for a history project that was written at the time of the event? Maybe you just want to indulge in a little nostalgia about events that happened when you were young.

New York Times Historical can help. It includes papers from 1851 to 2013. Find it on the website by clicking the Research tab, then N, or use the filter and choose Newspapers from the drop-down box.

Articles and ads are .pdf documents that can be printed or downloaded.

Main will close at 3 pm, Friday, November 11, in preparation for our annual Give-a-Gift fundraiser. We will re-open at 4 pm when you can mingle with friends, enjoy refreshments and live music, and purchase pre-selected books to donate to the library. Library services will not be available during Give-a-Gift. Our other locations will be open regular hours.

Do you need to know George Washington’s birthdate? How Fred Astaire’s career got off the ground? Maybe you’ve been assigned to write a report on a prominent woman in a science or technology field and you’re not sure where to start. American National Biography can help.

Find it on the library’s webpage by clicking on the Research tab. Anyone can use it in the library, and city of La Crosse residents with a valid library card can access it from home or school, too.
