Interested in Skillsharing?
We appreciate your interest in supporting the CREATE Lab!
At this time, we are not actively recruiting volunteers while we focus on launching and developing the space. In the future, we may put out a call for volunteers when opportunities become available.
If you are interested in sharing a skill by teaching a class or demonstration, please email: info@lacrosselibrary.org so we can keep it on file for future programming opportunities.
FAQ
“What is the CREATE Lab?”
The CREATE Lab is the library’s creative community makerspace where people can explore ideas, try out technology and craft tools, and build projects through hands-on making.
“What can I do there?”
The Lab offers curated activity kits, creative supplies, and specialty equipment so people can experiment, learn new skills, and develop their own ideas.
“Do I need experience?”
No experience is needed! Many activities are designed for beginners.
“Is it free?”
Yes. Most activities and equipment are free to use. Some materials have a small fee after a daily free allotment to help support sustainable use of supplies.
“When will 3-D printers and new equipment debut in the Lab?”
Our staff are actively researching new technologies, fundraising, and developing training protocols for advanced equipment—including 3-D printers. We plan to introduce new tools and specialized kits in phases over time.
If you’d like to support this effort, we welcome your feedback through our feedback form or your financial support at: https://givebutter.com/GiveToLPL Please select “CREATE Lab” as the designated fund.
“Can I donate materials to the Lab?”
The CREATE Lab accepts material donations periodically based on need. When donations are being accepted, we will publish an announcement to the community.
“Do I need a reservation?”
No reservation is needed for the Lab itself during open hours. However, the two meeting rooms in the Lab can be reserved for individual or group use while the lab is open.
“Can kids use it?”
Yes! The Lab is open to makers of all ages. Children under 7 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
“Will staff make things for me?” Staff can help brainstorm ideas, teach equipment, and guide projects, but their goal is to help makers explore their creativity and build their own projects.
“How can I learn more skills or take classes?”
The library offers a variety of creative programs and workshops throughout the year. Check the library’s event calendar to find upcoming CREATE Lab classes, demonstrations, and maker programs. You can also explore creative learning resources available through the library such as Creativebug to build new skills at anytime, even outside of Lab hours.
