Purpose of Meeting
Join the La Crosse Branch of the American Association of University Women for a special screening of the documentary "Equal Means Equal." A community discussion will follow this 90-minute film. Free and open to the public! Refreshments provided.
"Equal Means Equal" offers an unflinching look at how women are treated in the United States today. Examining both real-life stories and precedent-setting legal cases, it uncovers how outdated and discriminatory attitudes inform and influence seemingly disparate issues, from workplace harassment to domestic violence, rape and sexual assault to the foster care system, and the healthcare conglomerate to the judicial system. It reveals the inadequacy of present laws that claim to protect women, ultimately presenting a compelling and persuasive argument for the urgency of ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment.
Discussion and Question/Answer period after the movie will be facilitated by Janette Dean, Human Rights Advocate and Organizer.
This event is being hosted by the La Crosse Branch of the American Association of University Women thanks to a grant provided by the Women's Fund of Greater La Crosse.
