The La Crosse Public Libary is partnering with the Root Note for a free monthly movie night!

For our first screening, we'll be watching Boy (2010, 87 minutes, Not Rated). This heartfelt coming-of-age comedy from acclaimed filmmaker Taika Waititi tells the story of Boy, a young Michael Jackson superfan living in New Zealand in the "Thriller"-era of 1984. Boy lives with his brother Rocky, a tribe of deserted cousins and his Nan. Boy's father, Alamein, is the subject of Boy's fantasies, and he imagines him as a deep sea diver, war hero and a close relation of Michael Jackson (he can even dance like him). In reality he's "in the can for robbery". When Alamein returns home after 7 years away, Boy is forced to confront the man he thought he remembered, find his own potential and learn to get along without the hero he had been hoping for.

Show your library card for $1 off a drink during the film. Don't have a library card? Stop by any of the three La Crosse Public Library locations to get your free library card today, or sign up for a library card at the event. A local librarian will be on hand to answer your questions about the public library and help people get library cards.
