Event Details
Join local mycologists on a guided walk as we explore our nearby forests in search of fungi! We'll cover the basics of mushroom identification including parts of a mushroom, various forms and features, how to engage your senses & more. Other topics include simple ecology like where to find fungi and what they do in the environment. We'll also share how to easily document mushrooms you encounter and contribute to the community science database iNaturalist! Open to all levels. The pace of the walk will be very slow. *Registration required: Trail location will be provided in the confirmation email.
Mycologists Bio:
Lauren Ré and Jack Johnson are mycologists & nature educators based in La Crosse. They are Master's students at the University of Wisconsin La-Crosse researching various topics regarding fungi and their genetic relationships, diversity, and ecology. They've worked with mushrooms in nearly 30 states and 6 countries. They're passionate about sharing the joys and wonders of fungi and uplifting community science.
