Chad has been studying and implementing Poverty Informed Practices with adult learners at WTC and has taught and wrote about PIP as well. Many of his experiences and ideas translate well to the work of supporting parents and caregivers. Chad will share his model for how WTC has thought about a poverty-informed approach with their students and he can give robust examples of how administration and staff have had to think more deeply about things such as non-judgment, meeting basic needs, hospitality and welcoming, belonging, self-efficacy, strengths, and something they call acceleration, which translates nicely to the right-dose, right-time that Parent Ed has been playing with. He will talk about Ruby Payne’s framework of poverty with an understanding of its limitations as well as what can be gained for it.
